Product review: Hairplay's Set and Seal
Available at www.hairplayproducts.com.; $19.50 for an 8 ounce bottle of Seal; $22 for a 4 ounce bottle of Set.
When it comes to hair, you always want what you don't have.
If you have luscious curls, you want it bone straight. And if it's straight, you long for a head full of curls. I love to wear my hair blown-out, but it's thick and naturally curly, so its only a matter of time before the finger-stuck-in-a-light-socket look takes hold (usually as soon as I walk out the door). I use a variety of anti-frizz products, but the one that has tamed my mane like no other is the Set and Seal duo from hair guru Fritz Clay.
Clay, a multicultural hair-care specialist with two San Francisco-based salons, created two products that will help women make peace with the hair they were born with. Set and Seal made my tresses soft, shiny and so healthy looking. And I was able to hang on to my blowout a few extra days without a retouch.
Let's start with Set. It's designed to be used right after shampooing, as a leave-in conditioner. It's a liquid, but when it hits the hair, it transforms into a foam. Apply it before blow-drying, setting or twisting; it has a built-in thermal protector that shields hair from heat and restores manageability.
When your style is finished, it's time for Seal. A few drops are all you will need to seal the cuticle and give you a polished, high-wattage shine with no buildup. Set and Seal also delivers the goods for curly hair, helping to repair damage and restoring control and shine with no flaking. It also works like magic on natural hairstyles.
The duo comes in three holds: curly, wavy or unruly.
