TARPON SPRINGS - Officials in Tarpon Springs warned residents living between Riverside Park and the Kreamer Bayou to boil all water used for drinking or cooking for one minute, or to use bottled water.
The city issued the notice as a precaution Saturday because of a loss of water pressure. The notice covers the following areas:
•Those living between Peninsula Avenue and North Riverside Drive to Sunset and Riverside drives;
•All of Sunset Drive between Riverside Drive and Bayshore Drive;
•All of Eunice Drive, Loquat Drive, West Bayshore Drive, Seminole Boulevard; Marguerita Terrace, Lucille Drive, Bayshore Drive and Casa Mia Court.
The notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey of the area shows the water is safe to drink, the city said.
Residents who cannot boil water can use eight drops of common household bleach per one gallon of tap water; allow the mixture to stand for 30 minutes before drinking, the city said. Residents also can use water-purification tablets or iodine from sports or camping stores to disinfect the water.
Water that should be disinfected includes water used for brushing teeth, making ice and washing fruits and vegetables. People can use the tap water to shower and bathe, but children and those with chronic illnesses or suppressed immune systems should not swallow the water or allow it in their eyes or noses, the city said.
Businesses should disable water fountains and ice machines during this time, the city said.
