Published: October 19, 2008

TAMPA - Matt McCoy, a linebacker signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent this year, was released from the team Saturday after being arrested earlier that morning on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.
Jail records show Tampa police arrested McCoy at 4:11 a.m. at West Paul Avenue and South Sheridan Road, less than 500 feet from his home in the Gandy/Sun Bay South neighborhood.

About 4 p.m., the Buccaneers announced in a news release that they had promoted wide receiver Brian Clark from the practice squad to the active roster and released McCoy "to make room."

McCoy, 26, was released from Orient Road Jail after posting $500 bail.

Police stopped McCoy driving a 2008 BMW after seeing the vehicle heading west in the eastbound lanes of Gandy Boulevard, according to an arrest affidavit. McCoy swayed while he was standing, had glazed eyes and the odor of alcohol, the affidavit stated. He refused to undergo field sobriety tests, citing his attorney's advice, the affidavit said.

McCoy refused a breath-alcohol test, jail records say.

McCoy is a California native who was signed by the Bucs as a free agent in March, according to the Buccaneers Web site. Before coming to Tampa, he had been signed by New Orleans as a free agent and drafted by Philadelphia, the Web site says.

He played college ball at San Diego State.

5 Die In Solo Car Crash On Florida's Turnpike

MIAMI - Five people, including at least two children, are dead and three people in the hospital after a solo car crash on Florida's Turnpike.
Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jorge Delahoz says the vehicle rolled over in the southbound lanes of the turnpike just south of Southern Boulevard about 11:30 p.m. Friday.

The car, a 2000 Ford Expedition, was carrying three women and five children. The patrol says the car's left rear tire blew up, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle came to rest in a canal on the side of the road.

The group was heading to Fort Lauderdale from Orlando.

The conditions of the three people taken to Delray Medical Center were unknown.

Bounty Hunter To Aid In Search For Girl

ORLANDO - California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla will help search for Caylee Anthony, who disappeared earlier this year when she was 2 years old.

Padilla will join Texas EquuSearch in looking for the girl when EquuSearch returns to Florida on Nov. 8.

The group suspended its search last month. That's because high water levels caused by Tropical Storm Fay prevented a close examination of a search area in the woods in east Orange County.

2 Men Accused Of Stealing Firearms

FORT LAUDERDALE - Authorities say two South Florida men are accused of breaking into a gun collector's home and stealing revolvers, handguns, rifles, shotguns and jewelry.

Authorities say Peter Yakin and Tiny Gibson, both 20, each face charges including multiple counts of felony armed burglary.

A jail spokeswoman says Yakin and Gibson will not be eligible to be freed on bail.

Authorities say 40 weapons were stolen from the home near Fort Lauderdale and 33 have been recovered.
