TAMPA - Deputies charged a Brandon woman with leaving a 7-year-old and 3-year-old alone while she delivered a piece of cake to a male friend, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Yolanda Diaz, 36, was charged with child neglect and resisting arrest without violence early this morning.
Someone found Diaz's daughter, 7, and nephew, 3, wandering the apartment complex at 912 Elizabeth Circle, Brandon, and called the sheriff's office, the arrest report says.
Diaz was arrested about 1:45 a.m. She told deputies she left the children because she had to bring a piece of cake to a male friend in Plant City, the report says.
While being taken to the squad car in handcuffs, Diaz tried to pull away from the deputy, resulting in the resisting arrest charge, the report said.
She is being held at the Orient Road Jail on a bond of $8,000 for the felony and the misdemeanor charges.
