TAMPA - After three terms in the Legislature, Kevin Ambler appears headed for an easy re-election in District 47, which covers much of northwestern Hillsborough County.
The Republican from Lutz said his knowledge of the Legislature and the relationships he has formed in Tallahassee equip him to tackle tough issues.
The state's biggest challenge is the budget, which will drive all policy decisions, Ambler said.
"We are in the throes of a financial crisis in the state of Florida," Ambler said.
Lawmakers will have to choose between raising revenue or cutting costs. Ambler favors the latter.
"Does the system resist change? Absolutely," he said. "The status quo has got enormous power to keep itself intact. The question is, 'Can we do better?' The answer is, 'Yes we can.'"
Ian Grossman, a 20-year-old student at Florida State University, is running as a write-in candidate.
