The District 4 Hillsborough County Commission race pits incumbent first-term Republican Al Higginbotham against Pete Gifford, no party affiliation, of Riverview.
Higginbotham, a native of Plant City, was elected to serve the mostly east-county district in 2006. Prior to serving on the commission, Higginbotham ran a real estate brokerage and served as chairman of the county Republican Party.
Gifford is a 30-year county resident and owns an electrical contractor business. He has raised $4,340 in campaign contributions compared with Higginbotham's $120,260.
