Three-term state Rep. Ron Reagan faces newcomer Richard Jackson in a race for the District 67 seat that encompasses Apollo Beach, Ruskin and part of Sun City Center in south Hillsborough County.
Reagan said one of his main goals, if re-elected, will be to scrutinize the state budget more closely to ensure Florida is getting the biggest bang for its buck in education funding.
Reagan said he will emphasize transportation issues, such as commuter rails and toll roads, to better navigate the state. He also wants to address the high cost of homeowners insurance.
Jackson said he knows what people in his district need and he is ready to respond.
What they want, he said, is readily available and reasonable homeowners insurance, shoreline protection from offshore drilling, adequate public education funding and more use of solar energy and research into alternative fuels.
Ronald E. Rathbun of Riverview is a write-in candidate.
