TAMPA - Cuban pastries, citrus fruit and cheesecake are on the line this World Series for Florida's two U.S. senators who made a friendly wager with two of their Philadelphia colleagues.
Florida senators Mel Martinez and Bill Nelson bet Pennsylvania senators Arlen Specter and Bob Casey Monday on the outcome of the 2008 World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Florida senators will give a box of citrus, Cuban pastries, Ted Peters Famous Smoked Fish, and copies of the Columbia Restaurant Spanish Cookbook, while the Pennsylvania senators have anted up Pat's cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, cheesecake, tasty cakes and Herrs chips.
Nelson says he's "betting the Rays will make it to the White House before either [Barack] Obama or [John] McCain."
