BALM - The election goes local tonight at Balm Civic Center, with a variety of Republican and Democratic candidates facing off in a forum.
U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Bartow, and his Democratic opponent, Doug Tudor, are invited.
People will have an up-close and personal opportunity to question candidates on various topics.
From 7 p.m. until the audience runs out of questions, 10 candidates are expected to speak. In addition to Putnam and Tudor, District 4 Hillsborough County Commissioner Al Higginbotham, a Republican, and opponent Pete Gifford, no party affiliation, will speak.
Commissioner Brian Blair, a Republican, and his Democratic competitor in the District 6 race, Kevin Beckner, are expected.
Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Buddy Johnson, a Republican, will face off against Democrat Phyllis Busansky.
And Republican Property Appraiser Rob Turner will face off against Democrat Ken Ayers.
Hillsborough County School Board candidates Stephen Gorham and Carol Kurdell also are expected.
The civic center is at 14747 Balm-Wimauma Road.
Balm activist and civic association President Marcella O'Steen will moderate.
