During the past year, University of South Florida leaders have overhauled the academic support for student-athletes and made scholastic success among players a top priority. But NCAA data released this week shows their job may be harder for some sports than others.
USF football and men's basketball players graduated in far smaller numbers than the national average, according to NCAA figures. Those numbers measure the success of student-athletes who entered USF between 1998 and 2001 and earned a diploma within six years.
"So much has changed," said Glen Besterfield, USF's associate dean of undergraduate studies. "This is not reflective of where this university stands now."
