TAMPA - Another season, another Berkeley Prep-Tampa Prep rivalry match to add to the record books.

For the fifth consecutive year, Berkeley Prep (21-2) swept longtime rival Tampa Prep in regular season play, this time in three games, on Tuesday.

The Buccaneers won in scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-16.

Tampa Prep (8-12) led 5-1 in Game 1, but Berkeley quickly made a run of its own and never looked back.

"Whenever we play Tampa Prep, we're up for the match," Berkeley Prep coach Randy Dagostino said. "We made some adjustments in Game 1 and it worked."

Dagostino said the team's 21-3 record is the program's best since 2003, the last year the Bucs won a state title.

"We're having a great season," he said. "The girls have great chemistry. We're on a nice roll."

Junior Chelsea Parker led Berkeley with eight kills and 18 digs while Lindsay Young added nine kills. Mackenzie Dagostino had 20 assists and six kills.

Senior outside hitter Alena Ransom led Tampa Prep with 11 kills.

PANTHERS CELEBRATE SENIOR NIGHT: At first glance, Plant's gymnasium on Tuesday night resembled the setting for a homecoming dance rather than a volleyball match.

Pink carpeting, balloons, streamers and glittered signs… all that was missing was a turntable.

On the contrary, it was Senior Night for the Plant volleyball team, which celebrated the occasion with a 25-8, 25-11, 25-9 win over Riverview. For Plant coach Leanna Taylor, it was an emotional night.

"It's neat to see how they've grown up," Taylor said. "Not just as players, but as young adults."

Of her five seniors, Danielle Erb, Cameron Hill and Ariel Ley are four-year varsity members. Jordan Dickie and Alex Monteleone transferred to Plant as juniors. All helped Plant win consecutive Class 5A state titles.

Erb, who led Plant (19-3) with 13 kills, announced her commitment James Madison University on Tuesday. Hill, who owns the fifth highest GPA in her class, is committed to William and Lee University while Ley, eighth in the class, is committed to Davidson.
