IRA KAUFMAN'S POWER RANKINGS

1. Titans. Defense and a running game. Who knew?

2. Giants. See above.

3. Steelers. Yet another defense carrying the load.

4. Bucs. Heading to Big D brimming with confidence.

5. Bills. Looking for an MVP candidate? Try Trent Edwards.

6. Panthers. Don't be fooled by that lopsided loss at Tampa.

7. Redskins. Could come home from Motown atop the rugged NFC East.

8. Bears. Might surge after the bye week.

9. Cowboys. Jerry Jones has a compulsion to meddle.

10. Cardinals. A road win vs. Carolina would be another big step.

11. Patriots. Will have to take the Rams seriously in Foxborough.

12. Packers. That three-game skid is but a distant memory.

13. Jaguars. Very much in the AFC wild-card chase.

14. Falcons. Matt Ryan's poise keeps hope alive.

15. Eagles. Intent on rattling Ryan's cage Sunday.

16. Broncos. Still in first place, bad defense and all.

17. Jets. They'll look back at that Oakland loss with deep regret.

18. Chargers. One step up, two steps back.

19. Ravens. Need to show that same urgency the rest of the way.

20. Colts. Any hopes for another division title on the line in Nashville on Monday night.

21. Saints. London calling.

22. Vikings. Still in the hunt, but barely.

23. Texans. Don't count 'em out of the wild-card race.

24. Dolphins. Erratic defense didn't post vs. Baltimore.

25. Rams. Take a bow, Mr. Haslett.

26. Browns. Another step closer for Brady Quinn.

27. 49ers. Not good enough to play that sloppily and win.

28. Raiders. Janikowski will nail a 65-yarder one day.

29. Seahawks. Excruciating swan song for Holmgren.

30. Bengals. Too many playmakers to average only 14 points per game.

31. Chiefs. In need of a big broom that sweeps clean.

32. Lions. The defense rests ... and rests ...
