TAMPA - James Leslie Nichols coerced a 17-year-old girl to perform a sexual act on him at Gadsden Park and later threatened to hurt her and her family because of her new boyfriend, Tampa police say.
Police arrested Nichols, 43, of Tampa, at 9:20 a.m. Monday.
He was charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and aggravated stalking.
About two months ago, the girl said, she consented to perform the sexual act on Nichols but felt she had no choice, a criminal arrest affidavit states. She told police that she asked Nichols to leave her alone, but he made threatening calls to her and often drove by her school.
Nichols told the girl's father "that he was going to 'burn their house down," according to the affidavit. The affidavit does not expand on her relationship to Nichols or the actions of her boyfriend.
Nichols, of 4607 S. Reneille Drive, remained in Orient Road Jail today. His bail was set at $9,500.
