The Port of Tampa along with nine other U.S. seaports accounted for 83 percent of the American cruise industry's passenger traffic last year, the Cruise Lines International Association, a trade group in Fort Lauderdale, said in a new report.
The report found that cruise ships sailing in and out of Tampa had booked 4 percent of the 9.2 million cruise passengers nationwide.
The other ports that were cited in the cruise association's latest report include:
•Miami led the way with the highest share of the U.S. cruise ship passenger traffic with 21 percent.
•Port Canaveral and Port Everglades followed with 14 percent of all passenger traffic.
•Los Angeles, New York City and Galveston, Texas, each had 6 percent.
Tampa, Seattle, Honolulu, Long Beach, Calif., each had 4 percent.
