TAMPA – Former state Department of Children & Families spokesman Al Zimmerman pleaded not guilty today to child porn charges.
The plea entered in a document filed in U.S. District Court voids the need for an arraignment hearing next week.
Zimmerman was arrested in February and accused of making sexually explicit photos and videos of two boys who were 16 at the time. Authorities said he met one of the boys through his job.
Last week, a federal prosecutor said investigators have identified four or five new victims. A new indictment was handed up, adding charges of receiving child pornography, possessing child pornography and obstruction of justice.
Today, Zimmerman pleaded not guilty to the charges in the new indictment.
A federal prosecutor has said Zimmerman often used his work computer to correspond by e-mail with the two victims identified earlier. Zimmerman told authorities he didn't know the boys were underage.
