QB Romo Out Until Mid-November

IRVING, Texas - Tony Romo's broken little finger has become a big issue for the struggling Dallas Cowboys.

The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback, who wanted to try to play last week despite the broken pinkie on his throwing hand, said Wednesday he now doesn't expect to play again until at least mid-November.

"I don't know when I'll be back," Romo said. "I think definitely the idea now is to get healthy by that bye week."

That means Romo would miss at least two more games: Sunday vs. Tampa Bay and the following week at the Giants. Brad Johnson will start against the Bucs.

Dallas put safety Roy Williams (fractured right arm) on injured reserve.

BEARS: Signed safety Terrence Holt and placed rookie cornerback Zackary Bowman (biceps) on injured reserve.

BRONCOS: Have lost linebacker Boss Bailey (left knee) and backup quarterback Patrick Ramsey (right elbow) to season-ending injuries. Cornerback Champ Bailey (groin) is out for at least a month.

BROWNS: Tight end Kellen Winslow appealed his one-game suspension for critical comments he made about the Browns' handling of his hospitalization with a staph infection.

CARDINALS: Wide receiver Anquan Boldin butted heads with teammates in practice to test his surgically repaired sinus and jaw Wednesday. He passed that test, but said after a limited workout that he was uncertain whether he would play Sunday at Carolina.

CHIEFS: Running back Larry Johnson apologized for behavior that's led to an NFL investigation and to his benching for a second straight week.

EAGLES: Guard Shawn Andrews had surgery on his injured back and is expected to miss at least six weeks.

JETS: Brett Favre acknowledged he spoke to former Lions president Matt Millen a few weeks ago, but denied reports he called Millen and gave him and Lions coaches information they could use in a game against the Packers.

PATRIOTS: Placed safety Rodney Harrison (torn thigh muscle) on injured reserve.

TEXANS: Wide receiver Andre' Davis will miss up to three weeks after surgery to repair a dislocated ring finger on his left hand.
