A 71-year-old woman died Thursday when she turned her car into the path of another vehicle on U.S. 27 in Polk County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Clara M Jaeger, of Davenport, was taken by medical helicopter to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where she died from her injuries, the highway patrol said.
This is what happened about 3 p.m., according to the highway patrol:
Jaeger was driving south on U.S. 27 in Davenport and was turning left on to International Bass Lake Drive. A car going north on the highway driven by Abra J. Thomas, 22, collided with Jaeger's 1997 Buick as it made the left turn.
Thomas tried to avoid the Buick but could not, and Thomas' 1996 Acura struck the passenger side of Jaeger's car. Thomas, of Orlando, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
The collision shut down the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 for more than an hour.
