CLEARWATER - A teacher found an unloaded .22-caliber revolver in a student's backpack this morning at Leila G. Davis Elementary School.
The backpack belongs to a student who lives with his grandparents, said Joelle Castelli, a spokeswoman for the city. The gun was an old gun that was kept unloaded in a container in the grandparents' bedroom, she said.
After interviewing the child and others, it does not appear that the child intended to harm anyone, Castelli said.
Police do not intend to file charges at this time. Clearwater police will contact the Department of Children & Families about the incident.
