NEW PORT RICHEY - A 28-year-old former bank employee was arrested by Pasco County sheriff's detectives Thursday, accused of bilking the bank out of nearly $68,000.
Lynn Ciancio, who most recently lived in Jamestown, N.Y., was arrested at a home in New Port Richey on charges of scheme to defraud and grand theft.
Authorities say that while working at Bank of America, Ciancio transferred funds ranging from $200 to $1,000 from the bank into her friends' or relatives' accounts and then into her own. Between June 2006 and July 2008, she stole the money about once a week, according to a sheriff's office report.
After being read her rights, Ciancio told authorities she stole the money from the bank because her house was going into foreclosure, reports state.
She was being held at the Land O' Lakes Jail on Fridaywith bail set at $20,000.
