Fashion stalwarts Nicole Miller, Rebecca Weinberg and Clinton Kelly are on their way to the Tampa Bay area to dish out a little style advice.
Fashion icon Miller, famed for perfecting "the little black dress," will highlight her fall and holiday collection Wednesday at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club to raise money for the Museum of Fine Arts, both in St. Petersburg.
She also will make an appearance from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the evening wear department at the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Tampa's WestShore Plaza.
Miller says dresses will continue to dominate during the holidays.
"I think dresses are so popular because they really look good on most women," she says. "The emphasis will shift from baggy and boxy to body-conscious styles."
Miller's most important piece of fashion advice: "Always look in a rearview mirror before leaving the house. What looks good in the front doesn't necessarily look good in the back."
Weinberg, stylist to the stars, has more than a few style tips up her designer sleeve, and she'll share some Saturday during the grand opening weekend at Dillard's at The Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel. Weinberg will host "Spotlight on Fashion: Dillard's Designer Runway Show" at 6 p.m. in the mall's Center Court .
The Emmy Award-winning costume designer for HBO's "Sex and the City" says that the ultimate style accessory is confidence.
"Those 'SATC' girls wore every outfit with confidence," she says. "Whatever you put on, trends or not, wear it with confidence. You become a very stylish person when you have confidence. It's all about attitude."
Weinberg expects menswear trends to be holiday favorites through spring. She fancies tweed blazers, suited trousers, hats and vests; dresses, wrapped, belted or cinched; and animal prints.
Weinberg advises shoppers to be aware of what they already have in their wardrobe and to shop around.
"I don't know anyone who dresses head to toe in one designer," she says. "Use pieces you already have in your wardrobe from last year, and mix it in with something new and freshen it up."
Weinberg's fashion show is free and open to the public. For a $20 donation to the American Cancer Society, fashion fans can attend a cocktail reception, watch the show from premiere seating and take home a swag bag and a $10 Dillard's gift certificate.
Call the cancer society at (813) 949-0291, ext. 114, to register. Guests also can enter to win a $1,000 Dillard's shopping spree.
Kelly (below), the star of TLC's "What Not to Wear," will make two appearances locally. At 2 p.m. on Sunday, he'll host "Revisit Your Style and Wardrobe" at the grand opening of the Macy's at The Shops at Wiregrass. At 2 p.m. Sat., Nov. 1, he'll help petite women fix their fashion faux pas and host a fashion show at Macy's at Westfield Countryside mall.
The biggest issue petite women - 5-foot-4 and shorter - face is fit and proportion, Kelly says.
"If you're petite, you have to be careful your outfit doesn't walk into a room before you," he says. "You don't want to do a big, bold print, bag and earrings, and a big bracelet because then you've been completely overpowered by your outfit."
Instead, choose a bold print and accessorize it with one bold item, he says.
Another don't? Petite women shouldn't dress monochromatically to elongate the body.
"That's wrong," he says. "Petites have a tendency to look like they are wearing little kids' clothes. They don't shop in the petite department, and they should be. They should look for quality and fit so they do look like grown women."
If you want to see Kelly at Macy's, RSVP to (727) 724-7307.
