A Gulfport woman wrote about $240,000 in checks payable to herself from her job's operating account, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Julie Taylor-Mashburn, 45, was charged with grand theft and organized scheme to defraud.
She turned herself in to authorities today.
The FDLE began investigating her in April after learning from Tampa police that she might have embezzled money from Gasmasters Inc., where she had worked for eight years. Mashburn was a bookkeeper at the company and made payments on the company's behalf.
She wrote the $240,000 in checks from July 2005 through February when she was fired from the job, investigators say.
She remained in Orient Road Jail today. Her bail was set at $50,000.
