A hit-and-run driver struck two people who were walking along a street early today, killing a woman and critically injuring a man, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Spring Hill - A hit-and-run driver struck two people who were walking along a street early today, killing a woman and critically injuring a man, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Jessica Ann Lawrence, 27, and Joseph A. Amoroso were walking north along Monteverde Drive, near Killearn Lane, at about 12:40 a.m. when someone drove a vehicle up behind them and hit them, troopers said. The driver continued on and struck a row of mailboxes before fleeing in the vehicle, troopers said.

Lawrence, of 16600 Saguro Lane, died at the scene, troopers said. Amoroso was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa with critical injuries, the FHP said.

Troopers had no description of the vehicle and are asking anyone with information to contact Cpl. Eric Bromiley at (727) 841-4181, ext. 112.
