THE DIFFERENCE: The Royal Knights came alive with a season-high 258 yards of offense to upset the heavily favored Eagles.
GAME NOTES: It was a happy homecoming as previously winless River Ridge (1-6) ran over visiting Springstead (5-2). ... Third-year coach Tim Stevens had won only one game prior to Friday night. ... The Royal Knights ran for 195 yards, with RB Stavros Arianos (81 yards), FB Trevor Shoun (48 yards) and QB Kenny Toce (47 yards) carrying the load. ... Toce also completed five of nine passes for 63 yards, including a 31-yard toss to Shane Allen on their first scoring drive. ... Shoun had two goal-line TD plunges. ... Jack Paris added a 4-yard field goal as time ran out in the first half. ... The Royal Knights' defense, led by LB Frank White's 17 tackles, held Springstead to 54 yards on the ground. ... Cornerback Edwin Melendez intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter for the only turnover in the game.
STAT OF THE GAME: River Ridge, which had been shut down in the second half all season long, scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns.
