THE DIFFERENCE: A trio of long plays - passes of 47 and 48 yards and a 67-yard run - accounted for more than half of Tampa Catholic's total yardage and 21 points in an 11-point victory.
GAME NOTES: Henry McLoud, who'd been held to only 21 first-half yards, burst off right guard for an electrifying 67-yard touchdown three plays into the second half. The score gave the two-time defending Class 2A-District 5 champion Crusaders (5-2, 3-0) a 17-7 lead to break open a close game. ... McLoud finished with 98 yards on 22 carries. ... Tampa Catholic forced six fumbles - recovering three - and converted them into 14 crucial points. ... The Crusaders had apparently settled for a 32-yard Matt McLaughlin field goal and a 20-7 third-quarter lead, but a personal foul penalty gave them a first down. Quarterback Christian Green quickly exploited the new opportunity with an 11-yard scoring pass to Jordan Jones. Green finished 12 of 22 for 159 yards. ...The teams combined to commit 18 penalties for 161 yards.
STAT OF THE GAME: 14 points. Tampa Catholic scored a pair of third-quarter touchdowns - McLoud's 67-yard run and the Green to Jones pass - to turn a close game into a 24-7 advantage.
