There is no shortage of things to do this fall and winter here on the Suncoast.
There is a plethora of attractions, events and activities to please the hearts of everyone and any age -- from kids to grandparents.
And when they get hungry, there is an abundance of eateries that offer a variety of products, many at reasonable prices, including seafood, a staple in any coastal area.
Florida is famous for its grouper, a tasty, white-meat fish.
From the northern tip of the coast in Hudson to the southernmost point in St. Petersburg, most attractions are just a short drive.
However. if you don't mind traveling a little longer, cross the bay to Tampa and drop into Busch Gardens, probably the biggest attraction in this area, where you will find exciting rides and many exhibits.
Pasco County offers plenty of golf for the scratch or novice golfer. There are approximately 20 courses, public and private, and more than double that in Pinellas County.
Pasco's public courses include Gulf Harbors, Magnolia Valley and Seven Springs in New Port Richey; Meadow Oaks in Hudson, and Timber Oaks in Port Richey.
Head down to Pinellas and you will find the lush green public links of Tarpon Springs Golf Course, Innisbrook in Tarpon Springs, Chi-Chi Rodriguez in Clearwater, Mainlands in Pinellas Park, and Mangrove in St. Petersburg--just a smidgen of what is available. Add to these some private courses that offer rounds to the public.
Shopping here is premium. There are many local and interesting little stores with that hometown flavor throughout the area and several malls if that's your bag.
If you are a history buff make sure to see the Historical Society Railroad Museum in quaint downtown Dunedin, just a few of miles north of Clearwater.
Discover Pasco's rich heritage with a stop at the West Pasco Historical Museum and Library on Main Street in downtown New Port Richey.
If you trust the roll of the dice, set sail on the Sun Cruz from Port Richey. This day trip boat has slot machines, tables, roulette--whatever your little gambling heart desires.
There is plenty of food and libations aboard but you won't be able to gamble until the ship enters international waters. The captain will let you know.
From Pasco, venture to Clearwater, about 22 miles south, cross the Memorial Causeway to the Clearwater marina and you will find unique dining on the smooth inland waters aboard the Starlight Majesty.
Luncheon and dinner dance cruises are available.
While you are there you might want to check out the Show Queen, another such ship that offers luncheon and dinner cruises in a casual atmosphere.
Come back midway across the causeway and stop at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
This adventurous facility is dedicated to environmental education, marine research, and marine animal rescue, rehabilitation and release.
You might find sea turtles lolling about while on the mend or maybe a dolphin who is rehabilitating from a sea injury. This frisky creature just might want to put on a little show for you. You could even pet a stingray. The kids love it.
Head north again to Tarpon Springs and visit the Sponge Docks. Watch as mariners unload ships full of sea sponges.
Enjoy the authentic Hellenic culture of the area scattered among its many shops and enjoy food unique to the area.
Complete your day with a fine meal at one of the many restaurants in Pinellas or Pasco, and maybe take in a show at one of the area theaters.
And, if you're up to it, dance the night away at one of the classy lounges in either area.
