I looked it up, and our household income has doubled since George Bush took office in 2000. We have a mortgage, some credit card debt and a student loan to pay back, but we do a budget each month and try very hard to stick to it. My wife went back to school, with a student loan, to become a teacher, a profession that requires her to give much more than she receives (in money).
Are we better off than eight years ago? You bet. Is it because of the president? I've paid less in taxes and prospered more, but it has been the product of our own household choices as much as anything else, the same as every household.
Please don't promise me $1000 if you become president. That's not going to turn any house around. Choices and hard work will do that. If some take that $1000 and "stimulate" the economy by buying HD TVs instead of paying down their debt, we are no better off than before.
