Canes Eke Out Win Vs. Wake

MIAMI - Robert Marve had a 1-yard touchdown run to put Miami ahead for good, Matt Bosher kicked three field goals, and the Hurricanes defense stiffened considerably in the second half on the way to beating Wake Forest 16-10 on Saturday.

Marve, a former Plant High standout, completed 11 of 20 passes for 153 yards and set up the go-ahead score in the third quarter with a 43-yard rush, helping Miami (5-3, 2-2 ACC) win consecutive league games for the first time since October 2006.

Marve then hit Thearon Collier with a perfect 25-yard pass on third-and-10 with 3 minutes left, getting Miami to midfield and allowing the Hurricanes to run out the clock.
Josh Adams had 21 carries for 111 yards for Wake Forest (4-3, 2-2), which marched 66 yards for a touchdown on the game's first drive, but didn't find the end zone the rest of the day. The Demon Deacons rushed a season-high 52 times for 195 yards, but quarterback Riley Skinner was only 3-for-8 for 57 yards.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC 29,

LOUISIANA-MONROE 28

MONROE, La. - Rusty Smith threw a 22-yard touchdown to Cortez Gent with 22 seconds left in the game to lift Florida Atlantic (3-5, 1-2 Sun Belt) to a win over Louisiana-Monroe (2-6, 1-3 Sun Belt).

Trailing 28-20, a 22-yard field goal by Warley Leroy to cut the Owls' deficit to 28-23 with 5:41 left in the fourth. Then Florida Atlantic used an eight-play, 72-yard drive, capped by Smith's game-winning touchdown pass to Gent to give them the victory.

FLORIDA A&M 31,

NORFOLK ST. 28

NORFOLK, Va. - Trevor Scott kicked a 26-yard field goal with 4 seconds left to lift Florida A&M (6-2, 2-2 MEAC) to victory over Norfolk State (2-6, 1-4).

Curtis Pulley completed 13 of 27 passes for 252 yards with three touchdowns and rushed for 101 yards on 13 carries for the Rattlers. Philip Sylvester added 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

BETHUNE-COOKMAN 27,

WINSTON-SALEM 6

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - McKinson Souverain ran for three touchdown, all in the fourth quarter, to help lead Bethune-Cookman (5-2) past Winston-Salem (1-6).
