MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Carl Edwards held off David Reutimann of Zephryhills to win the Kroger On Track for the Cure 250 on Saturday, keeping alive his hopes for a second straight NASCAR Nationwide Series title.
Edwards started 34th in his No. 60 Ford but made an early stop for fresh tires and gained ground quickly. He took the lead for good from Mike Bliss on Lap 69.
Reutimann kept his Toyota on Edwards' rear bumper for the final two laps, but couldn't overtake him for the lead.
"It came down to the last couple of laps where I could have easily had gotten into his back bumper, moved him and gone on," Reutimann said, "but that's not the way I like to do things. It's not the way I was taught to race. Hopefully it will come back someday, but now it just feels lousy to lose."
Earlier, in the heat of the moment, Reutimann had said: "Long story short, I should've moved him. He would've moved me for sure."
TRUCKS: Ryan Newman passed Ron Hornaday in Turn 2 on the last lap at Atlanta Motor Speedway to win in his first Truck Series start.
Newman and Hornaday traded the lead twice in the final eight laps. The two raced side-by-side for a lap, with Hornaday coming out front on the next-to-last lap.
Newman then took it back and Hornaday, in a battle for the series championship, couldn't afford to push the issue.
