TAMPA - Police are investigating two armed robberies that happened in South Tampa on Saturday.
The first robbery took place at 1:16 a.m. near South Albany Avenue and West Azeele Street.
Tampa police say a man with a handgun was wearing a black hoodie and ski mask when he approached a male victim and demanded money. The robber hit the man on the face with the gun, according to a police report. The victim did not give up his wallet but threw $110 at the thief. Police say the robber picked up the money and drove off in a red 1990s Toyota Celica with tinted windows and a spoiler on the back.
A similar robbery occurred 22 hours later on Azeele Street in the Hyde Park area. The female victim told police she was walking to MacDinton's Irish Pub at 405 S. Howard Ave. when a man wearing black clothes and a ski mask confronted her. According to the police report, the man wielded a gun and demanded money. Police say she gave him her purse, which held her wallet, credit cards and cell phone.
Tampa police say they talked to the robber several times on the stolen cell phone. Police say he used the woman's credit cards at a Kwik Stop near Fern Street and Florida Avenue.
A car fitting the description of the red Celica was seen at the Kwik Stop.
