After losing the final game of the World Series Wednesday night, the Tampa Bay Rays are scheduled to return from Philadelphia this morning at 3 a.m., according to FOX-TV's local news broadcast.

The team's charter flight will fly into St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport, the usual home destination for the Rays.

Their stay in the Philadelphia area was extended by inclement weather that forced the suspension of Game 5, which began Monday night and resumed Wednesday in the bottom of the sixth inning with the game tied at 2.

The Phillies went on to win the game, 4-3, claiming the franchise's first world title since 1980.

The loss caps a season of historic firsts for the Rays. After 10 years of consistently dreadful play, the team made its first playoff appearance, won its first division title (in the rugged American League East), and won its first pennant.

With a young nucleus signed for the next several years, most observers consider the Rays a safe bet to be perennial playoff contenders.
