TAMPA - A water main break forced the city to close one lane of Florida Avenue between Bird Street and Waters Avenue. Part of the road was expected to remain closed today.
The pipe was expected to be repaired by next week, said Eli Franco, distribution division manager for the water department. Repaving work likely will take a couple of days, and that northbound stretch of Florida will remain closed until the work is done.
Department officials suggest drivers take Bird Street east to Lamar and north to Waters and west to return to Florida Avenue. Barricades and detour signs will guide motorists.
