TAMPA - Two Chihuahuas are thought to have died in a house fire this morning.
Firefighters received a call at 7:23 a.m. about a two-story, single-family home burning at 308 W. Francis Ave., said Capt. Bill Wade of Tampa Fire Rescue.
Crews saw 15-foot flames coming from both sides of the wood-framed home, Wade said. The dogs were inside alone, Wade said.
It took firefighters nearly two hours to control the fire because it was in the wooden walls and moved into the attic.
The 58-year-old homeowner, who according to the Hillsborough County property appraiser's Web site is Cynthia Bowden, told investigators the home was OK when she left about 6:40 a.m.
An adjacent home was slightly damaged by the heat and flames.
More than 40 firefighters from Tampa Fire Rescue were at the scene.
Firefighters had not made a damage estimate.
