TAMPA - Police plan to have extra units patrolling near North 19th Street and East Wilder Avenue because a man robbed a 15-year-old girl at gunpoint at a school bus stop there this morning.
The girl was not hurt, "just shaken up real bad," said her mother.
The Tribune is not identifying the mother and daughter because the man has not been arrested.
The woman said she dropped her daughter at the bus stop for Tampa Bay Technical School about 6:35 a.m. today.
About 10 minutes later, the woman said, a man approached her daughter and another student, flashed a gun and grabbed the girl's chain, breaking it. The girl found the broken piece a short distance away, where the man had dropped it.
Tampa police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said extra officers plan to patrol the area to ensure the students' safety.
The woman said she now plans to be at the bus stop when her daughter is there.
