TAMPA - Hillsborough schools Superintendent Mary Ellen Elia launches a series of town hall meetings at
Hillsborough High School tonight at a time when the district is still wrestling with complaints about new school bus routes.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Hillsborough High, 5000 Central Ave., Tampa. The public is invited.
Since before the first day of school Aug. 18, parents have complained about revamped school bus routes and schedules, which led to crowded buses, longer walks to bus stops, cuts in after-school program transportation and a swamped transportation hot line.
Some school board members called the problem a fiasco. The administrator in charge of transportation -- 57-year-old Jack Davis -- announced he is retiring Friday for health reasons, just two weeks into the new school year.
Here is the schedule of Elia's planned town hall meetings. All begin at 7 p.m.
•Tonight: Hillsborough High School, 5000 Central Ave., Tampa
•Monday: Burns Middle School, 615 Brooker Road, Brandon
•Sept. 9: Coleman Middle School, 1724 S. Manhattan Ave., Tampa
•Sept. 11: King High School, 6815 N. 56th St., Tampa
•Sept. 15: Mulrennan Middle School, 4215 Durant Road, Valrico
•Sept. 22: Brandon High School, 1101 Victoria St., Brandon
•Sept. 23: Pierce Middle School, 5511 N. Hesperides St., Tampa
