LAND O' LAKES - A high school under construction in Holiday now has a name.
The Pasco County School Board voted today to name the school Anclote High, citing its proximity to the Anclote River.
The school, being built next to Smith Middle on Sweetbriar Drive, is scheduled to open in August 2009.
The school district solicited suggestions from the community and received dozens of ideas. Among them: Holiday High, Freedom High, James Madison High, Thomas Jefferson High and Nature Coast High.
Although it's not the case with every school, board members often like to choose names that are tied to geography. Many schools in Pasco are named for the communities they are in, the streets they are on or a nearby landmark.
The district also has an Anclote Elementary.
