ST. PETERSBURG - A party bus was shot at early Labor Day as it was discharging a group of passengers who had just left Club Underground in Tampa, St. Petersburg police said.
There were no reports of injuries, said St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman George Kajtsa.
The shooting occurred after a brawl at the club between bus passengers and another group of club patrons, Kajtsa said. Tampa police used pepper spray to break up the melee, he said.
The driver took the group to a place where they could buy milk, which is said to ease the effects of pepper spray, Kajtsa said. Afterward, as the driver for Party Bus USA was taking the group of 20 back to St. Petersburg, he noticed the bus was being followed on the Howard Frankland Bridge by a white 2008 Cadillac CTS sedan, Kajtsa said.
The Cadillac pulled in behind the bus at 4:22 a.m. Monday as it stopped at 1630 15th Ave. S. to discharge the passengers it had picked up from that location at 11 p.m. Sunday, before the trip to the club, Kajtsa said.
Shots were fired, Kajtsa said, and the Cadillac sped off. Twenty-seven minutes later, the sedan was found abandoned at 22nd Avenue South and 41st Street South, he said. Someone tried to set the car on fire. A fender was smudged and a tire burned, Kajtsa said.
Inside the car were several brass shell casings, he said.
There are no suspects.
