TAMPA - A kitchen fire just after midnight damaged three apartments and displaced 12 people, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said.
No one was injured.
Flames damaged the apartment where the fire started, at 14308 Hensel Lane in Avalon Village Apartments, said Ray Yeakley, fire rescue spokesman.
Two other apartments sustained water and smoke damage.
The American Red Cross has offered temporary shelter to the three families who were displaced, including five adults and seven children.
Yeakely said the fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes. A second alarm was called because the fire had the potential to get bigger, but that alarm was canceled in about four minutes, Yeakely said.
Yeakely said the fire was caused by a cooking accident.
He said the apartment building had ten units, but only three or four were occupied. The rest of the building was vacant.
