Two men have been arrested after a burglary scare that led to lockdowns at Burnett Middle and McDonald Elementary schools in Seffner, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The schools were placed on lockdown this morning after a man opened a nearby business and found someone ransacking the place, said sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.
A man fled from the business at 2382 Kingsway Road when the owner showed up about 8 a.m., Carter said. No one was hurt.
A sheriff's office helicopter was called in for a search, Carter said.
About 2 p.m., someone reported seeing two men in the area of Muck Pond Road and Kingsway. Canine and aviation units responded and arrested Elias Contreras Montejano, 32, who was hiding in an open field, the sheriff's office said.
About 30 minutes later, Enrique Contreras, who turned 24 today, was arrested while hiding behind a tree in a yard at 6215 Muck Pond Road.
Both men, whose addresses were not known, were being held at Orient Road Jail on charges of burglary of a structure and resisting arrest without violence.
