In honor of September's Library Card Sign-Up Month, the Pasco County Library System is hosting Leaders Are Readers programs.
Local leaders will visit young patrons at library system branches.
These leaders will share their favorite short books with children during story times or speak to teens about leadership.
"We have a lot of great kids coming into our libraries and on our teen advisory boards," said Linda Bragg, public relations specialist of the Pasco library system.
"I know they'll really get into this."
The leaders chosen for the program represent politics, medicine, education and communications.
They received invitations from Karen Correa, youth services coordinator for the library system.
The program was scheduled to kick off Tuesday with an appearance by physician Rao Musunuru at Hudson Regional Library.
Michele Baker, chief assistant county administrator, is scheduled to speak at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the Hudson library, 8012 Library Road.
Pasco County Commissioner Pat Mulieri will speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Land O' Lakes Library, 2818 Collier Parkway.
Commissioner Ann Hildebrand will speak at 11 a.m. Sept. 10 at Centennial Park Library, 5740 Moog Road in Holiday.

New Port Richey City Council member and public relations specialist Marilynn deChant will speak at 6 p.m.. Sept. 15 at Regency Park Library, 9701 Little Road in New Port Richey.
State Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, will speak there at 11 a.m. Sept. 17. Fasano has been named Florida's Outstanding Legislator for 2008 by the Florida Library Association.
Also speaking at Regency Park Library are Heather Fiorentino, superintendent of Pasco County schools, at 6 p.m. Sept. 22; John J. Gallagher, county administrator, at 11 a.m. Sept. 24; and County Commissioner Michael Cox will speak there Sept. 29.
"We have a good list of folks," Bragg said.
No advance registration is required for these programs, which Bragg hopes will influence young library patrons.
"I hope they'll be inspired and entertained," she said. "I hope they'll learn that leaders are readers, and that reading can give you possibilities."
