TAMPA - Standing by her family outside the courthouse Wednesday, Sabrina Mitchell said she wants the man accused of killing her sister to remain behind bars.
"We have faith in the process," she said. "We think that he is exactly where he should be right now."
Tyrone Lamont Grimes, who had been out on bail on a second-degree murder charge in her sister's October death, was arrested Aug. 28 on a charge of tampering with a witness. A hearing Wednesday on whether Grimes should remain in jail without bail was postponed. A new hearing date likely will be set next week.
Grimes drove a car up to a man Aug. 28 and stared at him while waving a semiautomatic handgun in his hand, then drove off, the man told Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies. The man was walking with his daughter to a school bus stop, an arrest affidavit states.
That man, whom Grimes is accused of trying to intimidate, is a witness in the murder case against Grimes, authorities say.
On Oct. 17, Grimes fired several shots from a handgun inside Fluid, a club at 2016 Town Center Blvd. in Brandon, said Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter. A bystander, Karen Williams, 36, was killed.
In a January interview with The Tampa Tribune, Grimes said he was at the club but did not fire any shots. He said someone shot at him.
