NORTH PORT - Police arrested a North Port man for allegedly threatening to kill a Sarasota County sheriff's deputy last week.
James Pierce, 43, was charged with felony threatening of a public servant and resisting arrest without violence after he was arrested by North Port police.
According to police records, Sarasota County Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Egoville was driving on U.S. 41 in an unmarked sheriff's office car when Pierce pulled up beside him, formed an imaginary gun with his hand and motioned that he was going to shoot Egoville.
"Hey, (expletive), I'm going to kill you," Pierce reportedly told Egoville.
Egoville reported the episode and followed Pierce at a distance.
North Port police stopped Pierce a short time later on Burdette Terrace, where Pierce reportedly got out of his vehicle and threatened police before being subdued.
Officers said they found a loaded handgun near the front seat of Pierce's vehicle and two extra ammunition magazines.
Egoville told police he had arrested Pierce, a North Port contractor, in the past and thought Pierce's threat of violence to be real, especially since Pierce was known to carry a weapon.
Reports offered no other details on Egoville's connection to Pierce. Pierce was released from the Sarasota County jail Aug. 27 on $1,750 bond.
