OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Kyle Boller was placed on injured reserve Wednesday by the Baltimore Ravens, ending his season and raising the question of whether the quarterback will throw another pass for the team.
Boller has been sidelined since hurting his shoulder in Baltimore's second preseason game against Minnesota on Aug. 16.
"He has got either one of two injuries, either the torn labrum or he's got, I don't know the medical term, but there's a connection in the biceps to the shoulder that might be a problem," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "The torn labrum has not responded to the medication, and the other injury is a season-ender. He's done."
Joe Flacco won the job because of Boller's injury and Troy Smith's lengthy battle with infected tonsils. Flacco will start Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Johnson Accuses Bell Of Stealing His Luggage
ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Detroit Lions running back Rudi Johnson says his luggage was taken from the team's practice facility by Tatum Bell.
Johnson was waived by Cincinnati, met with Lions president Matt Millen on Monday and signed a free-agent contact. During the meeting, his two duffel bags were taken from the team's headquarters.
Johnson said Wednesday he was shown surveillance footage Tuesday afternoon that captured the theft.
The empty bags were returned Tuesday evening, but Johnson said he is still missing $200, his ID, credit cards and clothes. Johnson said he had spoken with Bell and did not plan to involve the police.
Jaguars' Collier Remains In Critical Condition
JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier remained in critical condition a day after getting shot in the front seat of his Cadillac Escalade. The Jaguars, meanwhile, returned to practice still thinking about their teammate who was fighting for his life less than 2 miles away.
The 26-year-old and former teammate Kenneth Pettway were waiting for two women outside an apartment complex early Tuesday when a gunman fired into the vehicle.
Collier had surgery at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, and updates on his condition have been scarce because family members requested privacy.
In other Jaguars news, receiver Reggie Williams missed practice because of a hamstring injury and might not be ready for the season opener.
Williams, who sat out much of training camp and part of the preseason after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, was expected to be in the starting lineup Sunday at Tennessee. But he spent Wednesday's practice riding a stationary bike and working with team trainers.
COWBOYS: Signed free agent safety Keith Davis after the Dolphins cut him.
Davis enters his sixth season, all with the Cowboys. Davis signed as a free agent with Miami after last season.
PANTHERS: After backup quarterback Matt Moore injured his left leg in the final preseason game last week, he had two X-rays and an MRI that revealed no broken bones.
Cleared to practice Wednesday, Moore attempted to push off on his leg and felt something pop. X-rays revealed a broken fibula, and Moore is out indefinitely.
PATRIOTS: Tom Brady participated in practice, a sign he's expected to play in Sunday's season opener after missing all four exhibition games.
Wednesday's practice report listed the quarterback with right shoulder and foot injuries. But last year's practice reports listed him with the shoulder injury in every game and he started all of them. Brady has started 127 straight games, the third-longest streak by a quarterback in NFL history.
STEELERS: Signed Sean McHugh, a tight end who started 12 games for the Detroit Lions last season. McHugh also played for Tennessee and Green Bay. The former Penn State fullback will be the Steelers' third tight end behind starter Heath Miller and backup Matt Spaeth.
