CLEARWATER - When a Pinellas County sheriff's deputy tried to stop a car early today, it took off and crashed into a telephone pole near an elementary school, authorities said.
Two of the three occupants were arrested; investigators are looking for the third.
Tiffany Mitchell, 17, of 1530 Gentry St., Clearwater, and Justin Renee Paulino, 16, of 1201 Seminole Blvd., Largo, both have been charged with auto theft, trespassing on school property and resisting arrest without violence, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
They and the third person are suspects in an armed robbery in Clearwater that happened at 10 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff's office said.
Clearwater police broadcast a description of the vehicle used in that robbery. At 3 a.m. today, the deputy saw the car, a Subaru Outback that had been stolen in Seminole, and tried to stop it. That's when it sped away and struck a telephone pole near Ponce de Leon Elementary School in Clearwater.
That deputy and a canine unit deputy arrested Mitchell and Paulino.
