TAMPA - Two children are being treated at Tampa General Hospital after a car accident this evening.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, this is what happened:
At around 5 p.m., Dorothy Makinson, 51, of Seminole was traveling eastbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. When she attempted to enter the eastbound Interstate 4 entrance ramp with a left turn, her 2001 Toyota Camry collided with Aiyana Jefferson's 2002 Dodge Neon.
Jefferson, 26, of Tampa, was travelling with two children, 5-year-old Jimmie Aikens and 3-year-old Mali Jones. Both were transported to Tampa General Hospital where Aikens is in serious condition and Jones is in surgery, listed in critical condition.
Makinson was charged with causing the crash with a violation of right-of-way. Jefferson was charged with two counts of child restraint violations for the two unrestrained children.
