THE DIFFERENCE: Down by one point with just under six minutes to play in the game, Freedom recovered a Wharton fumble on the Wildcats' 28-yard line and marched for the game-winning score to give the Patriots a win.
GAME NOTES: The first quarter was all Wildcats after a 1-yard Malik Williams touchdown and a field goal gave Wharton a 10-0 lead. ... Freedom scored 17 unanswered points in the second period. The first came on a blocked Wildcat punt that went out of the end zone for a safety. The ensuing free kick was returned 65 yards for the Patriots' first touchdown. ... An interception set up the Patriots' next score as sophomore QB Josh Grady punched it in from a yard away. ... Wharton retook the lead when Renaldo Gordon recovered a fumble in the Patriots' end zone that gave the Wildcats a 24-17 lead.
STAT OF THE GAME: Freedom's win Friday matched its total of wins for all of last year.
