Published: September 6, 2008

Filled with college football rivalries, sunny skies and little rain, this glorious weekend belies a behemoth churning toward Florida.

Still a good four days away from striking near the Florida Keys and then emerging in the Gulf of Mexico as a Category 4, Hurricane Ike is causing some of the state's southernmost tourists to evacuate this morning and schools in South Florida to consider closing.

Ike's forecast for the Tampa Bay area is uncertain this many days away. It may not affect our weather until Wednesday.

So this weekend, in between watching college football and enjoying this respite from the rain, you'll want to keep an eye on Ike.

The National Hurricane Center issues major forecast updates every six hours, at 5 a.m., 11 a.m., 5 p.m. and 11 p.m.
