Burrows Leads East Bay

RIVERVIEW - East Bay's Chaz Burrows knew he had to do well in Friday's game to honor friend and former East Bay quarterback Rex Ballenger, who was killed in a car accident May 19. And Burrows came through with a big game.

The Sharks' defense had no answer for Burrows, who led the Indians to a 51-25 win with 15 carries for 262 yards and three touchdowns.

"I know everybody heard about our lost friend Rex Ballenger," Burrows said after the game. "He'd want us to beat Riverview more than anyone, and if he was here with us he would have loved to see this victory."

Indians coach Brian Thornton said Burrows is the anchor of the offense and he will be relied on in every game.

"Chaz is a great back," Thornton said. "I can't say enough good things about Chaz. He's a great football player, a great leader and a great person."

The Indians rushed for 458 yards and had no pass attempts as the Wishbone wore down the Sharks' defense.

Riverview had a strong running game itself, as Ronnie Johnson led the Sharks with 162 yards and scored a touchdown on his team's first possession.

Burrows responded quickly with a 17-yard rush to cap a five-play drive. The Indians added another touchdown early in the second quarter on a 2-yard run from Andre Simpson. Simpson also scored on a 56-yard run and finished with 80 yards rushing.

The Sharks' Jarrid Heffers completed nine passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns, but dropped passes and three interceptions plagued the offense.

East Bay also scored on a DJ Richmond 20-yard run and a quarterback keeper for 50 yards by Brandon Peterson.
