CDS Takes Victory

TAMPA - Junior quarterback Billy Embody completed 18 of 26 passes for 360 yards and four touchdowns, leading host Carrollwood Day School Prep to a 42-27 victory against Leesburg First Academy.

It was the first 11-man varsity football game in CDS history.

Matt Monteilh had six receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 45-yard run with three minutes left to seal the victory.

Fellow junior running back Darius Bing rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. He caught three passes for 90 yards and a score.

Embody connected with freshman receiver Deuce Gruden for a 22-yard touchdown on the opening drive. Gruden also caught two conversion passes.

Josh Leigh scored three first-half rushing touchdowns as the Knights opened up a big halftime lead on their way to victory.

Leigh finished with 80 yards on 12 carries, including touchdown runs of 1, 14 and 15 yards. Brian Hubbart and Mike Shepperd also had first half touchdown runs of 33 and 20 yards respectively as the Knights opened up a 35-8 first half lead.

Providence quarterback Matt Morris threw for two touchdowns in the second half, one each to Manny Ortiz and Kene Sanchez, as he finished 5-for-6 for 80 yards through the air.

Defensive tackle A.J. Coates led the Knights defense, recording a pair of sacks, and recovering a fumble.

Senior quarterback Aaron Despaw rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns and passed for another score to lead the Eagles (1-1) to their first victory in 11-man football.

Despaw scored the only points of the first half on a short rollout late in the first quarter. He doubled the lead on a 17-yard scoring pass to senior wideout Vincent Strachan in the third quarter.

Despaw rushed for another touchdown to make it 18-0 in the fourth. Eldrith Smith capped the scoring on a 5-yard run with three minutes left on the clock.

J'VILLE UNIV. CHR. 54,

Senior quarterback Etienne Turner departed with a leg injury early in the second quarter and the visiting Lancers en route to a 40-0 halftime deficit.

Turner is expected to start Friday's home opener against Bradenton Christian at Jefferson.

Cambridge defensive tackle Mitchell Brown was pulled midway through the third quarter with a knee injury. His status for next week is uncertain.

The teams played the fourth quarter with a running clock.
