EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka alleged on Friday that Washington Redskins tackle Chris Samuels made a dirty play when he fell on the back of his ankle after being beaten on a pass rush on the final play of the NFL season opener.
Kiwanuka hurt his left ankle on the play. X-rays were negative, but the ankle was still sore on Friday, and so was Kiwanuka.
Replays showed that Kiwanuka beat Samuel to the outside on a pass rush and started moving toward Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell in the waning seconds of the Giants' 16-7 victory.
Samuels quickly turned and made a low lunging tackle, wrapping his arms around Kiwanuka's legs. His upper torso pinned Kiwanuka's left ankle.
"Honestly, I thought it was a dirty play," Kiwanuka said. "There's no question about it. He was definitely beat and instead of recovering or giving up, I don't know how many options you had, but I just don't think there is any place for that in the NFL."
Samuels was not in the Redskins locker room on Friday and was not immediately available for comment.
BILLS: Rather than losing a game paycheck of more than $191,000, Buffalo Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters made plans to end his holdout and report to the team today.
COWBOYS: Cornerback Terence Newman is listed as questionable for the season opener at Cleveland.
Newman's uncertain status on Friday's injury report was another sign that Adam Jones may make his Dallas debut as a starter on Sunday. It will be Jones' first NFL game since the 2006 season.
EAGLES: Philadelphia could play the season opener without its two top wide receivers after Reggie Brown missed his second straight practice Friday.
Brown has been sidelined since straining his left hamstring in the second preseason game against Carolina.
JAGUARS: Receiver Jerry Porter was ruled out of Sunday's season opener at Tennessee because of a hamstring injury.
PACKERS: Running back Ryan Grant (hamstring) and defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee) missed practice as a precaution heading into Monday night's opener against Minnesota.
RAVENS: After signing his three-year, $11 million contract with Baltimore, offensive tackle Willie Anderson hopes to play in Sunday's season opener against Cincinnati, the team that cut him.
The 6-foot-5, 340-pound tackle isn't expected to start immediately, however, with Adam Terry atop the depth chart.
SEAHAWKS: The return of wide receiver Deion Branch is going to wait at least a week.
Branch, who had major reconstructive surgery on his left knee in February, was ruled out of Seattle's season opener at Buffalo by Coach Mike Holmgren on Friday.
