Published: September 7, 2008

Lacoochee's Stanley Park is now home to the Police Athletic League's Dade City Pirates football program. The park, which underwent some improvements this summer, hosts the undefeated junior flyweight team (3-0), which will travel to face the undefeated West Hernando Cougars (3-0) today.
Stanley Park is at 38724 Mudcat Grant Blvd., named in honor of Lacoochee native and former major-league pitcher Jim "Mudcat" Grant.

Vernon Floyd, director of the Dade City Pirates, oversees the four-team division, which includes the junior flyweight, flyweight, mighty-mite and varsity teams.

The league serves players from ages 5 to 16.

"We're the oldest team in our league," Floyd said.

The Pirates began play in 1972, and this is their first season at Stanley Park.
